We had a GREAT male Sheltie named Cass a number of years ago. We got him at 7 years of age, started training him in agility at 8 years, and Teri started as a Junior Handler, trialing him in agility when Cass was 10 years old. Together they were still earning Masters legs when Cass was 13.
Because Cass was getting on in years, and we wanted to continue that line, we arranged to have bitch leased to breed to him. It was a pretty good litter, producing our Dart, NATIONAL AGILITY CHAMPION and 4 time FCI World Agility Team Member; along with another female who finished her Championship very easily at a young age and went on to produce some very nice Champion pups; and another sister, Bounder, owned by Justine Davenport, who is a 5 time FCI World Agility team member. At the FCI World Agility Championships in Spain in 2005 and in Norway in 2007, both Dart and her sister Bounder represented Canada in the small dog Division!
Since both Dart and Bounder are spayed, we risked loosing the line again, but then we found out the Conformation sister had been tightly linebred. As this was doubling up on Cass’s line again, we grabbed pick male puppy from that breeding, and that is Cypher…he is the spitting image in every way of his grandfather/great grandfather Cass.
Cypher has become a phenomenal Agility dog in his own right. At his first Regional AAC Agility Championship in 2006 he earned a 2nd place (beated ONLY by his own aunt Dart). He went on that year to a 9th place finish in the AAC Canadian Nationals.
Cypher went on to win the 2007 Regional Championship, handled by Teri, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, but they were unable to compete at Nationals, as Dominick (Teri’s son) was a wee bit too young to travel to the other end of the country. In 2008 it all came together though, and amidst tough competition Cypher and Teri won the National Championship title in the 16″ Regular class. In that same year Cypher was also one of three dogs in Canada invited to represent Canada at the 2008 AKC/Eukanuba Invitational Agility Championships in Long Beach, California (again, alongside his aunt Dart).
Cypher is a fearless, willing worker, always intense and competitive, but with a SUPER happy personality. We are looking forward to great things in the future from Cypher.
In order to continue this line, we have aquired a stunning young female from Honeyhill Shelties in Iowa, named Fysti. We are hoping to have Cypher and Fysti pups in 2010.
